This is a late 18th–early 19th century Greek or Levantine icon.
Mixed technique: tempera base with later oil glazes
The Virgin rests her cheek against the head of the infant Jesus. The iconographic scheme of the composition is known as the Virgin of Tenderness (Eleousa) of Byzantine origin. However, this Greek icon is certainly a fragment of a larger icon of the Virgin Eleousa.
Overall condition: The lower part is badly chipped and there are signs of repainted parts.
