John Maroun, first patriarch of the Maronite church (Lebanon), stands on a book and a snake, symbols of heresy. Above him, two angels hold a banner reading in Syriac : “The glory of Lebanon has been given to him”. An opened book to his right reads a doctrinal profession of faith in Syriac: “Two Natures, and two Wills, in our Holy Lord”. In the frame below we read an Arabic prayer and its English version (11 lines) addressed to “St. John Maron, defendant of the true faith”.
At the back a “Historical map of the city of Jerusalem” – title in Greek – with a photo of the tomb of Jesus.
